Elections Payrolls: Are you ready for the pay-rolling of polling day?

The general election on 8 June 2017 has caught a country by surprise, at short notice and with some sighs I suspect of extra in-tray/election fatigue (mark your own X in the box to vote for which?!)

Many Local Authorities need to prepare urgently for Elections payrolls. Did you know that the employer status of Elections staff is rather trickier than one might suppose? Some of the Elections team must be engaged as a separate employment by the Returning Officer, rather than the authority itself and this affects your payroll build, as well as tax. The distinction needs treating with caution.
