As the productivity of the UK’s workforce continues to be an increasingly growing talking point on the political and public sector agenda, it appears that employers are still failing to see the link between employee well-being and productivity.
Significant evidence exists supporting the link between well-being at work and productivity – with well-being including physical health and mental well-being. However too often ‘health’ is seen as a cost, rather than an essential investment. Investing in a health-promoting workplace may be part of genuine corporate social responsibility, but the non-believers need to be engaged by clarifying the difference that good health can make.
Leadership is essential to embedding health within an organisation, as strong leadership will bring well being into wider business practices, and both education and training are necessary to create and promote a culture of well being.
